Rare miniature of whaling Captain David Gifford Chadwick

Rare antique American miniature on ivory of whaling Captain David Gifford Chadwick of New Bedford. Capt. Chadwick was born in Padanarum in 1814 and was one of Commanders of the famous Stone Fleet and once owner of the whale ship Catalpa. A long history of his career is available. The portrait is in excellent condition in its original case with braided hair and his engraved initials. Artist unknown. Size: 2.5 inch long oval.
