Antique Whaler's Drawing "Striking a Sperm Whale" by Amos C. Baker Jr.
19th C. drawing "Striking a Sperm Whale" attributed to whaler / artist Amos Baker Jr. circa 1857. Very rare to find an original whaler's drawing not made for a logbook / journal. A nearly identical drawing with same title appears in Michael Dyer's book "O'er the Wide and Tractless Sea" page 258. It notes the sketch was drawn into the journal of Charles P. Dewey onboard the bark John Dawson 1855-1859. Interesting note that one of the whaleboats is going onto the whale under sail. Great condition. Mounted onto acid free matting. Drawing measures 12" by 10".
