Rare antique American oil on canvas "THE RESCUE" by Frank Thayer Merrill B.1848 (signed lower left) circa 1890. The dramatic scene depicts the rescue of several young ladies by a Life Saving Crew. The details of the line throw cannon, rope box, and the rescue capsule are beautifully and accurately rendered. The painting has its original handsome gold frame. Excellent cleaned condition with two minor repairs and minimal retouch. Size: 30 x 24 inches overall.
