Bee & Helen - The Wooden Jug

In the mid-1960s, a small workshop on Cliff Road in Nantucket became home to one of the island's most distinctive lightship basket studios: The Wooden Jug. Founded by women partners known simply as Bee and Helen, the studio produced hand-woven oval covered baskets in a community with mostly male weavers. A distinctive feature of Wooden Jug baskets are the notches carved into the ends of the swing handles. Their baskets are further identified by the signature on the bottom "The Wooden Jug", "B&H", "Made on Nantucket Island"
