Choice antique American scrimshaw dressing box made of exotic tropical woods with numerous inlays of whale ivory and ebony circa 1860.

The original fitted interior tray is divided into straight razor slots, brush cubicles other compartments all lined with original bright red wool baize. Inside the lid is a folding mirror framed with ebony. Made circa 1850. Ex Collection: William Coffin, Nantucket.

Very good original condition with minor repairs. Rich dark patina. Size: 14 x 7.5 x 5 inches.
