Rare Antique Nantucket Half Bushel Basket

Nantucket Half Bushel Basket, circa 1870, a large open round cane woven basket with wide wooden staves, heavy wooden rim fastened by nails but no wrapping, opposing D-shaped wooden handles nailed to outside of rim and extending down a third stave length with ends secures under the weave, wooden bottom with no plug having been free woven rather than on a mold, unsigned. In very fine, strong condition; lopsided as typical with free woven baskets. Measures 9 in H x 19 ¼ L x 18 ¼ in W.
